Overcoming Resistance by Finding A Way Around It
“Where we meet resistance, there is always a way around it.”
Years ago, a nice young man shared this advice with me and it is a truth that I will never forget. Now I share it with you. Why? Because many people experience feeling stuck in a rut, and that is just a trick of the mind. Some of us go so far to say that it is a trick of the devil. In fact, any force that tries to hold us back from our true potential is the work of narcissism.
I dive further into what narcissism is and how it works in my books and other blog postings, as well as on Quora. More importantly, resistance is a piece of the game of narcissism that likes to rear its ugly head from time to time in our lives.
Resistance occurs and it feels like we are beating our heads against a brick wall, making us feel like we cannot get anywhere. Resistance is like oppression in many ways, as it tends to stop people from moving forward. It can have a fairly strong gravitational pull, sucking you dry of energy.
The reality is, it doesn’t have to be that way. When we recognize the resistance, we want to learn how to get around it. Sometimes it can take a little time to figure out how to get around it, but there is always a way. It is akin to the old adage - ‘Where there is a will, there is a way’ - and many of us wouldn’t be where we are today if that wasn’t true.
There are many ways around resistance and they will depend on the circumstance. One significant component to getting around resistance is to be flexible. One cannot let the comfort zone take over their life or resistance will keep them there, in the place where dreams die.
More detail about all of this can be found on my YouTube channel where we dive into all the components in narcissism and cognitive dissonance.
What is Flexibility?
Flexibility means many things, but in the context of getting around resistance, it just means to be unafraid of new opportunities. Renowned author, James Patterson, delivered that message in 2019 at our University of Florida commencement event. “Never be afraid of new opportunities.” That message resonated with me on an intimate level as it is so very true and real.
When we avoid new opportunities, we let resistance stand in our way. Learning to be flexible and embark on a quest for knowledge helps find ways around resistance.
As we work around resistance, we continue to find inner peace, balance, and harmony. And we don't let the system of narcissism win by giving in or giving up!
