The Importance of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a very important part of trauma healing. We must forgive the narcissist without telling them to their face so they don't take it as permission to abuse us even more. More importantly, God forgives us so we can forgive ourselves for being duped and then we can forgive our enemies. 

Forgiveness encompasses several components. One component of forgiveness requires us to never hold grudges against our enemies. If we hold a grudge, that grudge will stand in the way of our faith and even cause us to fall from grace. Holding grudges also keeps us living in the past and we learn we are not to do that per Luke 9:62. How do we prevent ourselves from holding grudges? By learning to let go and let God as He tells us He will take care of our enemies for us. 

When we understand that vegeance belongs to the Lord, it is easier to not hold grudges or seek revenge. Not seeking revenge is another component of forgiveness. If we try to seek revenge, that makes us equal to the enemy who is seeking revenge and we don't want to be that type of person. We don't want to emulate a narcissist. Narcissists are very vengful, spiteful, and will hold grudges till they die. We must not strive to be like them and forgive, quietly. 

While we don't seek revenge, another component of forgiveness is not wishing harm upon our enemies. After all, we learn we are fighting a physical battle. When we realize we are in a spiriutal battle, it makes it easier to not wish harm upon others. I will say this, chosen ones were never apt to wishing harm upon anyone or anything, anyway. This shold be a no-brainer but I know some narcissistic abuse survivors go through a season of wondering "what if" something happend to the narcissist. 

As we don't wish harm upon our enemies, we pray for them that one day they will see the err of their ways like we have and make it to repentance.
